Topshop Returns to High Street with McElhinney's Partnership

Iconic Fashion Brand Reestablishes Physical Presence in Donegal

Exclusive

Topshop is making a triumphant return to the high street through a strategic partnership with McElhinney's, a renowned department store in Ballybofey, County Donegal.

Starting August 21, 2025, McElhinney's will feature Topshop's latest clothing line, marking the brand's first physical retail presence since its shift to online-only operations in 2021.

This collaboration signifies a significant milestone for both entities.

McElhinney's, established in 1971, has grown into Ireland's largest department store outside Dublin, offering a diverse range of products across its three-story establishment.

General Manager Sandra Devenney expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "We are really optimistic and very excited about this."

She emphasised that customers can anticipate "the Topshop that we all knew and loved and have missed."

The decision to reintroduce Topshop's physical presence aligns with the brand's broader strategy to reconnect with its customer base.

In 2024, ASOS sold a 75% stake in Topshop and Topman to Danish firm Heartland, aiming to revitalise the brand's market position.

Managing Director Michelle Wilson hinted at further expansions, noting plans for a "semi-permanent presence" in August and a more extensive return to the high street in the autumn.

Fashion enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the return.

Fashion blogger Denise Curran from County Armagh shared her excitement, saying, "You were bang on trend if you were shopping in Topshop. I can't wait to see what their styles will be like."

She also praised McElhinney's for securing the partnership, adding, "Well done to McElhinney's, it's amazing to see."

Topshop's history is deeply rooted in the UK and Ireland's fashion landscape.

At its peak, the brand operated approximately 300 stores across the UK and Ireland, including 14 in Northern Ireland and six in the Republic.

The partnership with McElhinney's not only marks a return to physical retail but also signifies a new chapter in Topshop's journey.

As the brand prepares for its high street comeback, customers can look forward to experiencing Topshop's latest collections in a familiar and beloved setting.

For those planning a visit, McElhinney's is located in the heart of Ballybofey, offering a comprehensive shopping experience that now includes the much-anticipated return of Topshop.

As the August launch approaches, both McElhinney's and Topshop are gearing up to welcome shoppers back to the high street, promising a blend of classic styles and contemporary fashion trends.
