Firmus Energy Announces Gas Price Reduction for Ten Towns Customers

Third price cut this year brings relief to households across Northern Ireland

Exclusive

Firmus Energy has announced a significant reduction in gas prices for customers in the Ten Towns area, effective from October 1st. This marks the third price decrease this year, providing much-needed relief to households as the colder months approach.

The Ten Towns network encompasses areas including Antrim, Armagh, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Banbridge, Coleraine, Craigavon (including Lurgan and Portadown), Limavady, Derry, Newry, and over 25 other towns and villages. Approximately 65,000 domestic and small business customers in these areas will benefit from the upcoming price reduction.

The latest decrease of over 7% translates to an average annual saving of £112 per household. This follows previous reductions earlier in the year, cumulatively resulting in a 40% drop in energy prices and an average annual saving of £865 for customers.

John French, Chief Executive of the Utility Regulator, commented on the reduction, stating that a formal review of the costs in providing gas and electricity concluded that a 7.56% decrease is needed to Firmus Energy's Ten Towns domestic gas tariff. He emphasized the regulator's commitment to ensuring that any decreases in wholesale energy costs are promptly passed on to consumers.

While the Ten Towns area will see this reduction, Firmus Energy is continuing to review prices for the Greater Belfast area. Customers in Belfast are advised to stay informed about potential future adjustments.

As Northern Ireland approaches the winter season, this price cut is expected to provide substantial financial relief to many households, ensuring that residents can heat their homes more affordably during the colder months.

For those concerned about energy costs, the Utility Regulator advises contacting suppliers directly to discuss available options and support mechanisms.
